Platformer Progress - Larger Character Sprite Test and Slope Tile Development Work-in-Progress

Hello and welcome again, am back again with another Blog post, with a bit of interesting development, albeit maybe not the most development.

So, for the most part while I might not show it yet, am working more on backgrounds, as of the moment making sky gradients for the times of day for them as well as getting color palettes ready for the locations themselves. But while doing that I'm setting up for the interactive playable layers in their own way.

In this case, I'm trying to fix the tileset I have, more specifically, I'm trying to make it able to be more natural.

Slopes and subtle curves, as I don't want to do entire ramps like Sonic would, notable enough to walk on like natural land as natural land wouldn't be 100% smooth, but subtle enough to not have too sharp of angles.. aside from the one tile slope.

The specifics of natural detail is to be made after the tiles are tested and workable, but should be easy enough to replace my current tiles with as I can transfer some layers over as a faster fix. I will test ability to interact with them soon in coding.

Alongside that is testing for making taller character sprites, non-playable so I shouldn't need as many sprites as Moof does, but I wanted to try with a support character who actually shares some design traits to the Moofs.

So, a fun fact for this fellow right here.

He had his design made long before the Moofs and long back when Moofs were made, they were meant to be comic gag minis of him, before becoming their own thing. Now lore wise they're alike in visuals via Convergent Evolution, IE where two different species evolved to share similar traits.

He still had some subtle color differences, the blue's not 1:1 though very similar, same to torso.

And another fun fact, before doing Game Gen work when I was experimenting by myself, one was-to-be project for testing Platformers used him instead of the Moofs, but as a MUCH smaller sprite than what he has now, resembling the Moof actually. He actually had his own Glide, and a movement option I might add for the Moofs, a Wall Jump.

Here's how that looked, this was from LOONNNNG ago.

As we all can tell, it clearly evolved at least a bit since then, I believe so.

As of the moment he's a lighter but still kind of involved role, the wings that Moof don't got as some concept sketches and even storyboards post world-bosses are to show.

Taller characters prove tricky, mainly due to being so used to smaller entities, the old sprites, Moof's sprites, and the enemy types have been on the smaller scale so far, so this will be something I am trying to be more adjusted to.

I'm still trying and am keeping on trying, but further posts only come in time, so for now at least this unfortunately is to be all from me.

I'll show more as I get more developed.
