Platformer Progress - Muffins, Maps, and Minor Tweaks

Hello everyone, today is another instance of progress checking my Platformer Progressions, each week there's a little bit more to the function or scenery of the game, and this week is no different. This time there's some good mix of both.

The first is a workable "Coin" system, or moreso at this point, really sticking to the Muffin system. Currently being able to be picked up, visually being turned into more Fully-Muffin objects instead of bits of muffin.

The muffin has a base now to actually look like a muffin. So in levels they'll look like this.

There is no audio yet, and the HUD is beta, but they're able to be collected so it's already going well for the most part. Sound is getting made.

Alongside the Coin-Muffins, there's also been an expansion to the current level itself.. How big you may be wondering?

Well about 20-25% bigger to be exact, the level used to end at the ledge after you spring up, now it's going into a small cave system. Which given my background for the next level seen a while back, is actually the perfect way to segment itself into that.

The fade isn't just for show either, I still need to add a light source, but the scenery, floors, and functional assets get darker alongside how deep into the caves you are, the level after I'll have to adjust to do the same thing, which can turn out beautifully if done right.

Alongside this all, I have a work-in-progress sprite too for.. not playable features, more detailed for cutscenes and helping with boss-fights, Moof has friends. The weird dynamic of adorable tiny child, and angry goblin man.

The level background has had a bit of a change in one of their Parallax layers, the closest row of rocks, having originally looked like this:

I took that, and edited it to look more stylized, and less bare on the bottom, it now however looks like this:

Layered, crystal-lined, something you'd see in the pattern of a 16-bit game almost. So in the lower regions of the level it can still look detailed and nice.. I just need to properly adjust camera and where the layers are so that they'll be perfect.

One last detail is about what has been seen in the images and videos for the most part so far.. The HUD. The text is Beta, and the Final I am currently working on myself, and for that we have the numbers.

Something cute, bubbly, and fun shaped for the Moofs. The numbers will take this role, text like the Muffin count and maybe Life Count if my Plan A doesn't work will be a more straight and stylized text.

The goal eventually is camera shifting which I have a theoretical idea of how to do, fuller coin function, and a beta test of the "outside of this level" regions, but until I get stuff to show for those, that'll be all for this.
