Platformer Progress - Special Boss Setpieces, Pierce's Tent and Design Plans for the Other Bosses

Heya once more to you all, we're back at it again with updates to the design of the Moof Project.


For some beforehand context, I've been thinking about adding some boss stage details to make special lively areas that also fit the character they are for, especially if working off a 1-3 screen area of explorable land to keep from outrunning any of them.


My first step was theorizing how to best pick what can be given to the characters, defined by both character in question, and location they're found in. The first one was Pierce, the Hyena modeled after the circus and metal aesthetics.


Since I have him assigned to be in the main scaling Prisma City itself, I thought one good idea would be a major Downtown Circus with bright neon lights and all that. With the main viewpiece being a giant Tent.

Although, I don't know what color palette nor pattern to use JUST yet, I do have some ideas outside the standard Red/White pattern. Maybe can do something weird like a deep Blue/Purple or something like that, darker colors to highlight brighter Neon colors.


For the others, they're mainly in planning. I have six areas,

Isle of Moof - Mech GooPilot - Beach View outside the Forest of the Isle. Trees on the sides.

Prisma City - Pierce - Downtown Neon Circus, dark main colors BRIGHT neon trims

(NA Snow Mt.) - Vex - Top of the Mountain, explosives that blow up rock to Moof's face shape

(NA Forest) - Valentine - Bamboo Forest Region maybe, maybe deep fog forest

(NA Desert) - Dominique - Tomb of a Pyramid, leading to a secret exit after.

Ashra's Ship - Ashra - Obvious technical devices, maybe a special engine setting.


I have Pierce's being worked on so far, calling the place Moonstone Circus both due to the crystal city theming, and the name being suggested by a friend. The rest will get their times soon too.

Just look at Pierce, he LOOKS like someone who'd thrive in a setting like that.

The main Prisma City itself already does a lowkey bright light with primary dark setting contrast as is, so this circus would mainly just dial it to 11, emphasizing it like it's Las Vegas.

The stage of performance will try to fit with the characters in some way or another.


Pierce's being a high tempo circus,

Ashra's got her warship and engineering advances,

Valentine in the forest to match a hunter species' environment,

So on and so forth.


It shouldn't be much extra effort to do as most would be static elements to begin with, I just have to make the extra layer that's used, not the worst thing, just needs concept work mainly to get the look down.


I'll need to put in more to getting everything together to show off it's full potential, buuuuuuut that's something that I can only really do in time, so I'll have to keep working on it.

For now though, that'll be all from me for the time being.
